Justice Of The Peace


Eligibility Requirement

You must be a Justice of the Peace who has completed the 80- Hours Basic Education for new judges. If you are a newly-appointed justice of the peace, please notify the Training Center immediately so we can register you for your new judges training . You will need to attend the 80 hours of new judges training prior to attending any of the 20- hour seminars listed in this catalog.

Online Registration

 STEP 1. Go to the Training Center’s Website at www.tjctc.org, enter into Online Registration.

 STEP 2. Locate the seminar you wish to attend and register online for that seminar. Be sure to choose your breakout classes and room type. You will receive a pop-up message that your registration was processed.  

STEP 3. Print your invoice immediately. (Your invoice will reflect the $80.00 registration fee and the $20.00 Texas State Overhead Assessment for a total of $100.00*)

STEP 4. Once the invoice has been paid (or P.O. processed) you will receive an e-mail confirmation. Also your name will appear on the seminar roster and you will be able to click on it and print out your confirmation letter which will include specific instructions such as hotel location, verification of room accommodations and other pertinent information. DO NOT CALL the Training Center to check whether your online registration is complete or fees have been received.   

Register by Fax

STEP 1. Complete the registration form by providing all the information requested. If any portion of the registration form is incomplete, it will be returned to you, possibly delaying or even preventing you from attending the seminar of your choice. Don’t forget that some seminar sites fill up rapidly. Submit one registration form per person. Any multi-registrations on one form will be returned to you with no registration being made. The Training Center recommends that you make multiple copies of the registration forms. This is the only registration information you will receive regarding the Civil Process seminars this academic year. Additional information and catalogues are available onthe training center’s website at www.tjctc.org.

STEP 2. Fax or mail your registration form to the Training Center.  Keep confirmation from your machine that the fax was successful.  DO NOT CALL the Training Center to check whether your fax has been received.  
 
STEP 3. You will be sent an acknowledgement letter and an invoice which will reflect the $80.00 registration fee and $20.00 Texas State Overhead Assessment for a total of $100.00.*
 

STEP 4. After your invoice has been paid, a confirmation letter will be mailed to all accepted registrants. Your confirmation letter will include specific instructions such as hotel location, verification of sleeping accommodations and other pertinent information. Regret letters will be sent to those who are not accepted. See Regret Letter below 

Registration/ Texas State Overhead Assessment (Fee Increase)

Registrants will receive an acknowledgement letter and Invoice upon receipt of your registration form. If you register online, you will be able to print your invoice immediately. The Confirmation letter will have specific instructions on hotel location, verification of your room choice and sleeping accommodation, and any other new or changed information relative to the seminar. The Invoice will reflect the $80.00 registration fee and the $20.00 Texas State University Overhead ssessment for a total of $100.00.

*SPECIAL NOTE: The Isla Grand on South Padre is a resort hotel and requires a 72 hour cancellation for sleeping rooms. If you don’t cancel your room or if you “No Show”, you will be charged $85.00 plus tax for that night. 

 

Workshop Certification

Note:  Please remember, only those judges who have been in office two years or more are eligible to receive certification through these seminars.  Any other judge may register for these seminars, but will not be eligible for certification.

Confirmation Letter

When the Training Center has received a completed registration form and provided the seminar is still open to registration a confirmation letter with specific information such as hotel location, verification of sleeping accommodations, and any other new or changed information will be mailed to you. 

Regret Letter

If the seminar has already been filled and your registration form was complete, a regret letter with a list of seminar sites still available will be mailed to you. You will then have the option of choosing another seminar. Please allow at least 4 weeks from the time you send in your registration form, to receive a confirmation or regret letter.

Cancellations

Cancellations will not be accepted over the phone. You must mail or fax a copy of the Cancellation/Change Form provided for you in the catalog or write the words CANCEL on a copy of your confirmation letter and fax or mail it to the Training Center.  Once the Training Center has received the proper paperwork for your cancellation, it will then be forwarded to the University for refund processing.  Please allow 30 days after the University has received the refund request before expecting reimbursement.  Judges who are “No Shows” or do not cancel within 2 weeks of the Seminar Start date will NOT be eligible for a refund.

Cancellation, No Show and Refund Policies

Cancellations must be received no later than 2 weeks prior to the seminar start date in order to receive a reimbursement of the registration fee/overhead assessment. Persons who register and “No-Show” or do not cancel 2 weeks prior to the seminar start date will not be eligible to a receive registration or overhead assessment refund.

Hotel Information

Hotel ReservationsThe Training Center makes all hotel reservations for the seminars listed in this catalog. You should only call the hotel for medical emergencies, early or late arrival, directions, or to reach an attendee of the seminar. The hotel will not give you reservation information. If you wish to make a change to your reservations, please do so by choosing Edit/Cancel button under online registration and selecting edit. Your confirmed hotel accommodations will be listed in the confirmation letter. 

Hotel Check-In When you arrive at the hotel, a line of credit must be established between you and the hotel for incidental charges. You may be asked to present a major credit card or cash deposit.Do not use a personal Debit Card for deposits or incidentals when checking into the hotel. The unused balance of your cash deposit will be returned to you upon check-out. Standard hotel check-in time is 3:00 p.m. For this reason, you may be asked to store your luggage at the bell-stand until clean rooms become available. If you plan to arrive at the hotel after 6:00 p.m. on the check-in day, you will be responsible for calling the hotel and guaranteeing your room with a personal credit card.
 
Early Arrival or Late Stay: If you plan to arrive prior to the seminar start date, or intend to stay longer than the conclusion of the seminar, you will be solely responsible for contacting the hotel to make the reservations and are responsible for all extra costs. The Training Center will not make the reservations and is not responsible for any costs associated with those reservations.
 

Room Selection: There is a section on the enclosed registration form for you to choose the type of room reservation you require. You must select from the choices provided on the form. If you leave this section blank the form will be returned to you as incomplete. 

* Pursuant to the grant conditions, the registration fee is mandatory and is returned to the grant to be spent as restricted funds. The Texas State University Overhead Assessment is used for activity expenses that the Grant cannot cover, such as excess meal and break costs, salary supplements, etc. These unrestricted funds are deposited into the Texas State University account. Counties or individuals who cannot afford the Overhead Assessment may request a waiver.
